Short history of IHMK

Hydro-meteorological activity in Kosovo has started since 1923, from that time the first water level recordings in the Drnini i Bardhe river in Vrbnica and Radac, Morava e Binçës in Krominjan, Kriva Reka in Domaroc, Sitnica in Mitrovica and Lepenci in Hani  Elezit. In 1926 the meteorological station started operating in Prizren, in 1928 the meteorological station in Peja and in 1933 the meteorological stations started in Pristina, while the stations in Brezovica, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Podujeva started after the second world war in 1948-1949.

Regular hydrometeorological measurements began mainly after the Second World War starting in 1948. After the Second World War, in 1947, the Federal Directorate of the Hydrometeorological Service of Yugoslavia was established, then the Federal Hydrometeorological Office and the Republican Directorates, and later the Hydrometeorological Regional Services.
